How to Reduce Your Stress in College

College students are stressed by a variety of factors every day. Whether it's work, your classes, or paying for school, the stress can build up. These can impact your emotional and mental health. If you are facing stress during college, there are a few ways to mitigate the effects and balance the many demands on your time and mental health.

Manage Sources of Stress

The way you deal with stressful situations can play a big part in how stressed you feel, but it’s also important to take the time to deal with common stressors in college. These might include academics, work, or finances. Get help in classes if you need it and find ways of balancing your work and life while you’re in school. Don’t be Afraid to Say No

It's important to make sure you schedule time for things that are important to you and help you relax and unwind. Don't take on too much or you won't have this time for self-care. You might practice deep breathing exercises, journaling, aromatherapy, or other activities that help you be more mindful of your needs and care for yourself.

Exercise Each Day

You don’t have to spend a lot of time exercising each day, but the benefits of regular physical activity are significant and it is important to get some in every day. Even 10 minutes of exercise can give you a break from homework and improve your overall health. There are often physical centers and sports teams you can join on campuses. You can also try biking or walking to class instead of driving. Even going for a short run around campus can be helpful.
