Global divide is the concept of a gap between the Global North and the global south in terms of development and wealth. The Brandt line was developed to show how the world is geographically split into relatively richer and poorer nations in 1980s. The Global North encompasses the powerful regions and rich regions such as North America, Australia and Europe. It was developed to describe a global capitalist system that separates countries into the North, semi periphery and the South based primarily on their economic participation.

Global North is characterized by established democracy, technological advancement, political stability, zero population growth, wealth and dominance of world trade and politics. Global south refers to the regions of Latin America, Asia, Africa and Oceania and this includes regions outside Europe and North America, mostly low-income and often politically or culturally marginalized countries. The divide is caused by the political power, economic dependency, and importation or exportation of resources. Global North nations became richer because of the innovation experienced in this countries and also due to constant flow of new ideas that enabled the people of this countries increase productivity year after year at a steady rate thus enriching their societies and widening gap between the other countries. This lead to other countries being dependent to this countries for new technologies and new innovation. This led to global south being dependent of Global North for resources and Global North exploiting the Global South resources as a way to pay for what Global North offer to them. This has led to global south countries being dependent of the Global North for new innovation and technologies thus global south are dependent on global north countries. Since global north countries exploit the global south resources it has led to global north countries being interdependent and needing global south resources to develop new innovations.
