Additionally, many aspects in the quality of American life in the 1960s contributed to the skyrocketing crime rates. The influx of psychedelic drugs, arising divorce rate, and the growth in secularism strained the social norms that governed society’s behavior. Arguably, as these social norms became weakened, control over individual behavior and crime became increasingly difficult.
