• Bea Christine Banugan is the chieftain of the tribe Mandaya in Caraga, Davao Oriental. She couldn't hold back her tears when a young Filipino American (Fil-Am) stood up and chanted "Stop spreading lies" in a US accent during a forum of Filipinos with eight indigenous peoples (IP) leaders on July 10 at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco.
• She was a victim of communist terrorist. Because of the non-stop killing of the Indigenous people in their land, she cries for justice especially when her father died because of the communist terrorists.
• She opted to lead their tribe after her father gunned down. Banugan said that she is not sure what their reasoning is for telling their tribe to stop telling lies. She urge the people in the forum to come to their lands and accompany them when they return home so they can learn more about the tribe. She also added that the NPA owned the allegations about the murder of her father.
