 FIRE FIGHT
A safe and secure environment is a prerequisite for effective teaching and learning. Thus 
ensuring life safety of students, professors, teaching staffs and staff members during disasters 
is very necessary
       A fire occurs when the elements i.e. heat, fuel, oxygen and chemical chain reaction etc...
A fire can be stop or extinguished by removing  any one of the elements  fire to occur, heat, fuel oxygen, and a chemical chain reaction

CHARACTERISTICS OF FIRE
       1.Short circuit is one of the leading causes of fire
      2.Most deaths due to fire occur at night when people are sleeping.
      3.Short circuit is one of the leading causes of fire.
     4.Heat and smoke from fire can be more dangerous than the flames.

FIRE PREVENTION: 
1.A fire can occur at any time. Therefore various measures are to be adopted in advance to 
prevent a fire in your building. Some of the measures need to be adopted are given below: 
2. Prohibit smoking in storage areas of flammable materials.
3.If electrical equipment is not working properly or if it gives off an unusual odour
disconnect the equipment and call the duty electrician.
4.Properly replace any electrical cord that is cracked or has broken connection.
5.When using extension cords, protect them from damage. Do not put them across 
doorways or any place where they will be stepped on or chafed. Check the amperage 
load specified by the manufacturer.
6.Do not plug an extension cord into another, and do not plug more than one extension 
Fire Prevention in the Kitchen Area:
The most common offender for fire-related incidents in the workplace is the kitchen or cooking area of your workplace. It holds most of the appliances in your office and is also where employees' attention is most likely to stray.

Unplug all appliances after use. Yes, everything. It's the only way to be sure no electric current can travel or cause unwanted sparks. Make it the habit of all your employees to unplug items before leaving the cooking area.
Keep any appliance that generates heat away from items or materials which could overheat or catch fire. This could include toasters, ovens, electric kettles, and space heaters.
Fire Prevention for the Office:
Other electric appliances and machines around your workplace could easily become fire hazards. Check around your office for common fire traps and follow these tips for fire prevention in the workplace.

Keep computers, monitors, copiers, fax machines, projectors, and paper shredders up-to-date, and replace old or damaged wiring immediately.
Be conservative with your use of power strips and be careful not to overload them.
Fire Prevention in the Workplace Using Smoke Alarms
Smoke alarms are the first line of defense in an emergency. Without properly functioning alarms, by the time employees are aware of a flame, it could already have spread and become dangerous.

Preventative maintenance, through inspections, testing, and maintenance, is essential. In addition to your smoke alarms, you'll want to establish a preventative maintenance program that covers all aspects of your fire suppression system, and that incorporates proper documentation according to your industry's safety requirements.

Fire Detection
All workplaces should have arrangements for detecting fire ,gives a basis for assessing what type of detection system will be appropriate for a workplace and will also give guidance of its installation.

Fire Warning
In almost all buildings, a suitable electrically operated fire warning system, with manual call points positioned both on exit routes and adjacent to final exits should be installed. This should have sufficient sounders for the warning to be clearly heard throughout the workplace. The sound used as a fire warning should be distinct from other sounds in the workplace and, where background noise levels are high or an employee has a hearing impairment, it may also be necessary to install a visual alarm such as a distinctive flashing or rotating light
