To anyone who is well versed in research and
engineering, please give a comprehensive introduction or an abstract on for example you wanted to make a
research on getting wind power through the
concept of magnus effect. explain a bit about its
importance, its concept, uniqueness and how it is
a good concept to research in this contemporary
times.
You may get ideas from other resources, please
just provide your references.
Magnus effect occurs when a rotating body is submerged on a fluid in motion. This causes a force on the body that is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid, due to a pressure differential between upper and lower zones of the body. Its discovery is attributed to the German physicist Gustav Magnus, hence its name, by an experiment made in 1852. Though it is said, Isaac Newton was the first to explain this effect through observing the trajectory of a tennis ball.
Step-by-step explanation
Research on Magnus effect is still a subject of study. Its effects, as well as its behavior on different environments are still research opportunities. A current investigation on the subject is being performed in the UK by, where the inverse Magnus Effect for fluid traveling at subsonic velocities is studied more deeply.
Besides, the studies on the topic made in the last few years, some conclusive investigations on many aspects of Magnus Effect based turbines have been performed. By 2007 demonstrations both theoretic and experimentally the operation of a wind turbine having cylinders instead of blades. The benefit found, was the capability of self-regulation of speed, for wind speeds above 35 m/s while its angular speed was three times lower than a conventional blades turbine.
