1. Your student, Sana, has been quite unruly for a considerable amount of time in your class, talking to her classmates during lectures and discussions. However, it seems that she is genuinely unaware of the disturbance she has been doing. How will you address this situation?
- I will ask for her parents to come to the school so we can discuss this matter and you able to explain gently and calmly to Sana why her actions and behavior should be improved and how it is being a distraction to the whole class. If Sana is having a problem concentrating, you should be able to give suggestions as to how to combat or address this matter. It is important that when you discipline a child, their parents are available so the child won't feel too much intimidated and wont be scared, unless you are already dealing with a teenager.
2. Another student of yours, Momo, is seemingly bored with the current flow of discussions, lectures, and quizzes on repeat. She hardly pays attention to any of your discussions. What will you do?
- Make sure that on your next class, you come prepared. By prepared means that you have studied ways what the students at that age are most likely interested in and you incorporate it to your lectures or add some activities in the class. This way, they may be able to be more engaged and attentive since adrenaline has been rushing to them due to the activity done.
3. As a lecturer, what rule do you think is the most important in classroom management? Explain.
-The most important rule in classroom management is Participation and Engagement. For a student to learn and absorb what is being taught in class, they need to be engaged with the lecturer and their classmates, also they need to participate in every activities. The problem now lies as to how will you make that possible as a lecturer.
Step-by-step explanation
It is important for a lecturer/instructor/teacher to understand that you are dealing with a child or a teenager who is younger that you and most likely immature. Hence, you should be able to empathize with them because scaring children or students are no longer working in this day and age.
Further, it is important to understand that there are no exact handbooks to handle a class because every child and student is different, hence, different approach on them is also necessary. Just keep an open mind, be more empathetic, but also be professional.
