The Filipino self is similar to Eastern thought in that it is based on community and family values. Filipinos are expected to put the needs of their family and community before their own. This is in contrast to Western thought, which is based on individualism and self-reliance.The Philippines are similar to Eastern thought in that they emphasize on the community and family unit. They are different from Western thought in that they do not emphasize on the individual.They is similar to Western thought in that it is a democracy. 

The Filipino self is a "virtual center" that is highly dynamic and evolves in tandem with our changing environment. It is essentially relational, a function of our interactions with others in society. We are essentially born into a system of kinship relationships; the Filipino views (and treats) himself/herself as part of an extended family. He/she also interfaces with nontraditional and external relations like co-workers, neighbors, foreign friends, and social media contacts. These interactions define his/her interpersonal relationships and give rise to the roles he or she plays in life, whether that is as an only child, sibling, wife/husband or friend. Filipino manners serve to protect the values we place on these relationships which we have learned from our parents at home or from the social organizations that we join.

The filipino people give a warm welcome to their fellow country men. The relationship between them is family, a sense of closeness that happen between 2 or more person whether blood related or not. And the importance of being honest in doing things. These is what makes the Filipinos different from other people.

 In Filipino families there's a strong connection between relatives and family values are considered essential. Filipinos are a very religious people and god forbidding in everyday life. This characteristic was brought by Spanish colonizers who introduced Christianity for us. 

The value of work and the responsibility of family are important to humans throughout the world. Some societies, though, place more emphasis on either one or the other. For instance, within Chinese culture and other Asian cultures, family allegiance may be stronger than allegiance in Western regions. In many Eastern countries, wealth is seen as a symbol of success earned through hard work. In some Western countries, wealth is seen as an indication of privilege or corruption.
