HOW IS THE PARTICIPATION RATE OF HIE IN GEORGIA COMPARED TO THREE OTHER STATES OF THE SAME DEMOGRAPHIC?

The State HIE Cooperative Agreement Program funds states' efforts to rapidly build capacity for exchanging health information across the health care system both within and across states. A health information exchange (HIE) allows health care professionals and patients to access and securely share a patient's vital medical information electronically.

HIE IN GEORGIA

The State-Designated Entity for Georgia's HIE is the Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN). GaHIN is a public-private partnership led by the Department of Community Health's (DCH) Health IT Unit that connects Georgia hospitals, physicians, clinicians, payers, wellness partners, and other health care stakeholders through a secure network to share patient health information. GaHIN Vision is creating a healthier Georgia through the use and exchange of electronic health information to improve patient-centered health care, increase efficiencies and improve the health of the state's entire population. Its purpose is to close the patient information gap across care settings by electronically connecting disparate systems and data sources to support improved quality of care, better health outcomes and reductions in cost.

HIE in Texas

The Texas Health Services Authority ("the Authority") operates the state-level health information network HIETexas as part of its responsibility under Chapter 182, Texas Health and Safety Code. This network connects the public and private sectors across the state.

HIE in Florida

The aim of Florida's Health Information Exchange (HIE) is to create clinically relevant, secure, and long-term approaches to technology adoption, utilization, and exchange that result in better health care outcomes for all Floridians, lower total costs, and enhanced access to high-quality treatment. The Agency for Health Care Administration governs the Florida HIE by setting policy, convening stakeholders, providing oversight, engaging Federal partners, and promoting the benefits of health information technology.. The purpose of HIE in Florida is to allow Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other health care providers, and patients to access and securely share a patient's important medical information through an electronic health information exchange (HIE), which improves the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient treatment.

HIE in South California.

SCHIEx provides physicians in South Carolina with access to the patient data they need to make informed decisions. SCHIEx (pronounced SKY-eks) is increasing the quality, safety, and efficiency of health care delivery in our state by offering real-time access to life-saving data. The sustainability of regional groups providing the foundation for a more comprehensive, nationwide health information network has been questioned in the wake of these high-profile failures. However, statewide public-private partnerships have had early success in establishing health information exchanges in recent years. The South Carolina Office of Research and Statistics (ORS), a service organization inside the Budget and Control Board, the state's chief administrative agency, has been a driving force in the development of SCHIEx. ORS is a non-partisan organization with no regulatory responsibilities within the state government. ORS is able to entrust data to various agencies and groups (both public and private) through a series of agreements and a repeating proviso from the legislature to be the point of integration for state agency data.
