a. Seidl and Seidl (2021) conducted a quantitative study to examine the elements that contribute to misdiagnoses that according to them is a problem that remains ranged from 10 – 15% for many decades..found by psychosomatic consultation services .
b. Seidl and Saidl (2021) investigated the causes using semi structured interviews with the referring physician and analyzed the reasons for suspecting a misdiagnosis through systematic reflection during peer supervision. During the research, 24 illnesses were misdiagnosed in 165 psychosomatic consultations (15 percent of the population). The research participants were all patients referred to a large university hospital's psychosomatic consulting services who were examined for misdiagnoses throughout a five-year period.
c. The authors found that unexpected clinical findings were the reasons for challenging the initial diagnoses. The nonrational aspects of the diagnostic procedure are highlighted in this study.
