The Battle of Thermopylae stands as one of the most heroic moments in all of Classical antiquity. 300 Spartans, led by King Leonidas, held off a Persian army of hundreds of thousands of soldiers for days on end. Eventually, after the betrayal of Ephialtes, they were besieged on two sides and each and every soldier was killed. In this reading response, I would like you to spend half your time discussing the reliability of Herodotus' as a source for the Battle of Thermopylae. Is he reliable? Why or why not? What evidence can you point to in order to support your opinion? For the second half of the response, I would like you to compare and contrast Herodotus' depiction of the Battle of Thermopylae with Frank Miller's depiction of the same battle in his graphic novel 300.
