There are four major groups of Hindus called varnas, each of which has a specific role in society: Brahmans (priests) at the top, followed by Kshatriyas (warriors & Rulers) and Vaishyas (initially farmers but later traders), and finally Shudras (lower-caste peasants & artisans and laborers).
