In developed economies, on-demand workers (freelancers, temps, casuals, etc.) form an increasingly large part of the workforce, even in executive jobs (e.g., project managers). Explain the challenges these workers create for HR managers in term of their general role and responsibility.
Some problems that casual employees, freelancers, on-demand workers, and temps pose for HR is that management is not necessarily held to the exact same standards as they are with regular employees in terms of ethics so to speak. Since these types of workers can work as few or as many hours as they choose, it's sometimes hard to determine if they're being given enough or too much responsibility or being overworked. It also poses a problem in terms of compensation. Casual employees, freelancers, on-demand workers, and temps are usually paid on a contractual basis instead of receiving regular paychecks; therefore, they're typically responsible for paying their own taxes.
