Why and how have human resources changed due to the technology revolution? What have been the main implications for HR Departments? If you were asked to define HRIS, what would be your response? Why?
Human resources have changed both positively and negatively due to the technology revolution:
1. Improving productivity. With new technologies, the HR systems can empower employees and give them access to update their data and access other information easily. This reduces manual entry that the team would otherwise do, and the time saved is used in production.
2. They are going paperless. The technology revolution has helped in data security and centralization. Data is stored in cloud base systems or hand disks or other technical storage, reducing papers and many files in the office.
Implications for HR departments:
1. Training and development. With the fast technology revolution, the HR department is mandated with training the workforce to adapt to a new technology, which at times is a challenge and costly.
HRIS
HRIS stands for Human Resource information systems. It is defined as an online solution used for data entry and the control of the data required in firm human resource management. It allows operations of human resource activities using information technology such as payroll tracking.
