The 5 major social institutions in our society are economy, government, family, religion, and education. The purpose of social institutions is that they act as regulatory agencies that guide our behavior and regulate our actions; they teach us norms and values. So we can look at all of these social institutions and say they all have a specific function in society. Economy - provides jobs, as well as good and services; government - maintains order; family - socializes its members; religion - provides moral, unifies us; education - provides knowledge and skills.

What are the most striking similarities between religion and education as social institutions? Think about all of the similarities in terms of what they do for society, how they are set up, any similarities you can possibly think of.

1.There a few similarities between education and religion. First they both prepare people beliefs and norms of society. Second religion is focused on producing gender inequality work among the individuals religion, also like education is the training of people for inequality work placement jobs. The differences of theses two institutions are education has different ways of educating students and religion has one way of teaching, but based on the culture is what are the beliefs and norms are being taught. These different schools for education effect students by standardized testing to prove how they can suceed in society. The church's of society is only to teach the members of society about certain beliefs that refer to their religion.

2.There are many similarities between educational and religious institutions. One such similarity is how they act as agents of socialization. Through school and church, individuals learn how they should act in society by learning the various norms, values, and even deviances of society. School has set rules and through interaction with teachers and other students, people learn what is deemed "right" and "wrong" in society. Religious institutions work in the same way. They preach distinct values and teach what they consider to be "right" and "wrong" and reinforce these lessons both among practitioners and through doctrine. This may be beneficial to the peoples involved because it does give them a greater understanding of the world around them and a distinct lens with which to view the complexities of the world. However, they can be harmful as well because educational and religious entities can serve to reinforce distinct gender roles and discriminatory practices that are seen in society as a whole, like sexist thoughts and practices. Thus, although education and religion serves to educate the masses and prepare them for the real world but, they also can disseminate information detrimental to marginalized groups.

Religious and educational institutions differ, however, in certain key ways. One way that they are different is that education is ultimately controlled and regulated by the government. Religious institutions are more a matter of personal choice and not subject to the same regulations. Another key difference is that education is mandatory for every citizen, but religious practice is not.
