THE FOLLOWING IS ONE OF MY CLASSMATE’S POST, PLEASE REPLY TOHIS POST.I believe that my last analysis about the Ukraine and Russia is still holding up, even after allof the recent events that have occurred in Ukraine during the past month. In my previousanalysis, I chose the option that said Russia will continue to support the rebels but notofficially make Eastern Ukraine part of Russia. Both of these things are still true thus far.Despite the fact that Russian rebels just recently made, what the State Department has calleda "land grab" in Debaltseve, Russia certainly hasn’t attempted to officially make EasternUkraine part of Russia. In my previous analysis about the current situation in the Ukraine, I commented on howRussia has showed a resilience to continue supporting the rebels despite the endless amountof sanctions that the West has threatened to impose on them. It is clear that Russia sees a lotof value in capturing Ukraine, and that economic sanctions will not be enough to make themstand down. Even after signing the ceasefire that was signed on the 15th of February, Russiacaptured Debalsteve from Ukraine fully knowing the threat of added sanctions that will mostlikely come from the West, which sure enough, the State Department promised to impose ifRussia continues to ignore the ceasefire. While writing my previous analysis, I would not have been surprised to hear that Russiawould sign some form of peace agreement to stop the fighting, yet completely ignore it andcontiue to take land in Eastern Ukraine. Russia’s actions have clearly shown that they have avery strong resolve to take over land in Eastern Ukraine, and it will likely take militaryresistance to stop them.
