This assignment is a four-paragraph writing project. It will be completed outside of class. The purpose of this assignment is to relate a movie to one of the three major sociological perspectives (symbolic interactionism, functionalism, or conflict theory). The student will need to think about how the movie's characters, storyline, setting, etc. might be used to explain the main ideas of ONE of these theoretical frameworks.
Think of the essay in these terms... Paragraph one should include the introduction with a BRIEF summary of the movie plot. In paragraph two define the theoretical perspective you will use. What are the main ideas of the perspective, who are the leading supporters of the perspective, etc? Do not plagiarize these points. In paragraph three provide examples of how the theoretical perspective you chose is illustrated in your movie. That is, what happens in the movie can be understood using the theory you selected. This is the most important paragraph as it contains the most pertinent information. Paragraph four will be the conclusion or wrap-up of the paper. This needs to be in APA Format.
