An assignment I was having trouble in a previous week was graphing linear inequalities. I connected with a Jorge E., a tutor on tutor.com. He was very helpful and effective at making sure I understood how to accurately graph these equations. I took a problem from the homework assignment that I had gotten wrong. The linear inequality was as follows:
Graph:
{y<3x-3
{y>=3x-2
After discussing what I was having trouble with, Jorge was able to help me understand by providing me with another example side by side with my problem so that he could break it down step by step. The use of a whiteboard that both he and I could write on was a very helpful way to see each step. At first, I didn't think he was fully grasping that I needed help with the graphing portion, however he knew what he was doing, he just needed to verify I knew how to solve the problem from the beginning. This was helpful because it kept it clear and simple with no confusion. He taught me to use any value I wanted to find the two points for the equation to graph. He also taught me that inequality means that we need to shade a region of the graph that depends on the direction of the inequality. So > we would shade the top and < we would shade the bottom. He also taught me that when we have a greater than or equal to sign, the segmented line becomes a solid continuous line, which I was having difficulty understanding before he broke it down step by step. He showed me that I could verify my answer using Desmos, which showed that the points I chose and graphed were correct. This was a very helpful tool to use, and I feel much more comfortable now with graphing inequalities. I will attach part of the problem we worked out together, to show that using tutor.com was beneficial.
