Format of the essay is 3 paragraphs:

- introduce the book, any background information, and state your argument at the end of the paragraph. Your thesis should claim that the book/film is either beneficial to children or detrimental to them. Focus on the topic of racism.

Body paragraph
- the first sentence should be a clear topic sentence that states what your paragraph will show.
- Integrate scholarly articles/ opinions on the topic you have chosen to focus on. You must refer to at least 1 scholarly article that criticizes or supports the novel/ film. Properly integrate this into your own opinion and writing.
- state whether you agree or disagree with these scholars' opinions.

refer to your own specific examples from the book or film and explain/discuss how it helps to prove your overall opinion.

Conclusion Paragraph

- Restate what your essay has shown. Summarize the findings of your essay.
- Consider why this is an important topic to discuss- why does this matter to you? To the country? To society? To children's literature? To the whole world?
