Imagine you were a functional leader in an organization. You have just been assigned to oversee a project team working on a new and important product, critical to the organization's short term success. The team is under a tight time frame to come up with a project plan and quickly begin to execute the necessary steps of the project. While you are not a functional member of the team, you do oversee them, and they rely on you for your knowledge, expertise, and overall guidance. The team invites you to attend a project-plan meeting as they want your approval of the initial plan. However during the meeting, you notice that some members of the team are not clear on what their individual roles are within the team. As a result, you are concerned that the project may not head in the right direction. Upon further inquiry, several members share that there is some initial conflict within the team.
