Virtualization and the data center

Virtualization is great but it affects resources and performance.

Goal of this project:

Design a SDDC using virtualization for O/S, Network and Data Storage.

Scenario:

Imagine that you are a company with 2000 employees and offices in Toronto (Canada), Dublin (Ireland), Johannesburg (South Africa), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Bangalore (India).

All of them need to use the same applications (Microsoft Project, Word, Excel), enter data in Oracle database which needs to be stored in production sites (Toronto, Dubai, Bangalore) and then saved in DR sites (Dublin, Johannesburg)

Problem:

Currently, there are only 1000 PC's, 50 printers, not enough licensed applications and it takes 10 minutes for users to update one entry. There are also power outages every week resulting in data corruption.

What is needed:

Your management has requested that you come up with a virtualization solution that will take care of the desktop needs for all 2000 employees, connect all the PCs across all the locations virtually and store data virtually.

Deliverable 1: Research about software-defined data centers, and their infrastructure components. Learn what each component of a SDDC does best.

Deliverable 2: Then pick a component that interests you among computer virtualization, including O/S, Applications, network virtualization and storage virtualization.

Deliverable 3: Find out what the industry trends are. Check out CISCO and BROCADE for Virtual Switches applications VMWARE, ORACLE and MICROSOFT and see how to virtualize networks.

Deliverable 4: Decide on how to get the SDDC up and running(Design and Implement)

Show SDDC design. Research the internet on how to design a SDDC and what a design looks like.

Deliverable 5: Create separate diagrams one each for virtual networks(VPN's too), Desktops , Computing and Data Storage

diagrams for the network, desktop connectivity architecture, computing(i.e servers, printers) and data storage(i.e Storage Area Networks etc)

Deliverable 6:Integrate all the diagrams to form the SDDC
