Theory is based on the machinations of an individual's thoughts and patterns primarily their emotions and the events and or circumstances that triggers them. However, although outside forces effecting a person is a huge contributor in their emotions and how they process them. Cognitive Theory itself retains a focus on the individual rather than interpersonal processes within the family, group, or community Walsh, J. (2015). Basically, it is a more person-centered approach compared to other theories implemented in the social work field. With is main beliefs being mindful thinking as the most important factor of most people's emotions and manners.
In practice this theory could be utilized in many ways other than just another step-in therapy. Not only is it effective in an intervention scenario but also during an intake process for a client. Its one thing to know and beneficial to know how a person might feel about something but to understand why takes it to another level. Comprehending a person's emotional thought patterns is crucial to understanding them but also what makes them who they are. Although cognitive theory does have some systematic attributes about it. It also been recognized by many professions to its more humane approach.
