I NEED A 150 WORD RESPONSE TO THIS DISCUSSION RESPONSE.
Leadership styles provide useful frameworks for organizational events to be seen more logically and consistently. Although the situational approach to leadership has been dominant for decades, considerations of styles are still important. Organizations with effective leaders have a high chance of increased profitability and performance because they have leaders who can provide reliable guidance to the organization. Scholars and research institutions have shown interest in the concept of leadership, which has led to the development of various leadership theories. The purpose was to determine the differences in various leadership approaches and how the individual and organization can be successful. Some feel that leaders are born, while others believe great leaders are made. Whether born or made, great leaders should be able to positively influence and empower their team members to grow as a person and within their careers (Bin Jomah, 2017).
Transactional and transformational are two leadership styles that have been recognized. Transactional leaders focus on the rewards, goals, and discipline of their followers (Bin Jomah, 2017). The leaders complete some form of transaction which leaves no room for uncertainty. Even with punishment, there is a lack of reward. There is no development of the employee. This type of leadership style is only effective when decision-making is simple. When the leader is passive managing, he or she waits for the outcome before intervening. When the leader is actively managing, he or she intervenes and corrects the mistakes while preparation is still in process (Arikan, 2020). Transformational leaders motivate their followers to remain creative by challenging their thoughts (Bin Jomah, 2017). This style is known to be the most influential. This style focuses on the personal development of the employees. The leaders act as mentors and are more trustworthy in the eyes of their employees. When making decisions, these leaders are creative and take the initiative to guide and teach their employees. Laissez-faire leadership was also introduced. This leadership is where the employee must take charge and responsibility. The employees make action plans to achieve the organization’s goals (Arikan, 2020).
When reflecting on my personal experiences, I often try the Laissez-Faire leadership style and expect my employees to assume authority and make decisions that are in the best interest of the company. However, this style is not suited for every employee and every company and I had to come to terms with that. I consider myself a transformational leader. I focus on the personal development of my employees, especially my team leader. My goal is to train them to take my place. When employees are knowledgeable about a job, this allows a smooth transition which also motivates the employee to grow within the company. As stated, in transformational leadership, the leader values the ability to transform and develop their employees. Kant’s philosophy emphasizes the leader’s moral duty as it strongly relates to what obligations a transformational leader owes followers in inspiring, motivating, and developing them (McManus, Ward, & Perry, 2018). Moral philosophies influence ethical judgments. The relationship between personal moral philosophy and ethical judgment is mediated by moral intensity. Individual perceived behavioral control can influence behavior directly. Specifying a code of ethics and moral philosophies can contribute to reducing incidents of unethical behavior (Singh, Vitel, Al-khatib, Clark, & Irvine, 2007).
