Summarize the system of checks and balances between the three branches of American government. In your opinion, is any one branch more powerful than the other two? Why or why not? What could be done to more evenly distribute power between the branches?
Answer:
This is what happens in the system of checks and balances. By vetoing laws that congress wants to pass, the Executive branch has the power to check the legislative branch. The legislature branch by passing laws over the veto by two-thirds votes in each house may check the executive branch. By declaring laws as unconstitutional, the judicial branch may check both the executive and legislature.
Other checks and balances includes executive over the judicial branch where all federal judges are appointed by the president. Legislative over the executive branch where the legislature must approve presidential appointments. Legislature over Judicial where presideries choice of judges must be approved by the legislative branch. Legislature over executive and judicial where the legislative branch can impeach all federal officers and finally judicial over executive branch where the president cannot fire Supreme Court justices. In my own opinion, legislature branch has more power than the other two branches because the final check is always held by it. The president may veto a bill, but congress may override it. To evenly distribute power between the three branches, the final check should be held by all the three branches together.
