Nursing informatics, as defined by ANA, is the specialty that integrates nursing science with multiple information and analytical sciences to identify, define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge and wisdom in nursing practice. In our present generation, technology has been vital in our day-to-day activities; and the medical field has slowly embracing technology in its practice. Most of the medical facilities in developed countries have adapted to the paperless, electronic medical records (EMR). This allows easier access to client data and information, such as in emergency situations where patient is brought to a facility with no medical records of him. Hospital-to-hospital access to records allow present HCPs to know patient's history and may have an overview of the current situation. Advances brought and developed by nursing informatics also provides better communication within health providers as data is more organized and complete, from patient's first visit down to his current. However, this does not violate patient's safety and confidentiality because his data is only available to those health care providers who are responsible of his health.
