?Becoming a great coach is to become a great communicator with your players, with your parents, with your fans, with the coaches that your crystal clear. Everbody body knows their role everybody knows what practices and when to show up and what days and things and activities that are going on. I think the other area that you want to become a great communicator with is your vision. Your vision for the team, for the program that you're a part of it. You haven't won a championship in 20 years maybe if that's the vision for your team. Cast that vision talk about it regularly make believers out of your players. I think another thing to keep in mind as you're communicating is to avoid profanity. I mean there's 600,000 words in the English language. You don't have to be that creative to come up with fun, exciting words that you can use with your players. So be a great communicator. The second is to becoming a great would be dependability. Can people count on you and so do you do what you say and do you say what you do. If you have a film 10:00 am Saturday morning, are you 5min. earlier or 5min. late it makes a difference in terms of your dependability and the trust and leadership thay you're going to get from your parents and players. The another area of dependability would be in your program. You know the consistency or the continuity of how you do things. You know is are you put in a predictable experience or a predictable product or team on the field each week and so can people count on that predictable experience. You know one of my favorite coaches is John Wooden, he always qouting poetry and of the one that he said no written word and no spoken plea can teach our youth on how they should be nor all the books, on all the shelves it's what the teachers are themselves and he talked about being a great example and so that dependability is going to make you a great coach it'll set a great example to your fellow coaches and your players and parents. So the third is becoming a great coach is be loyal. Now be loyal to several things, first be loyal to your fellow coaches have each other's back. You know inevitably there's going to be a parent that's going to pull aside one of the coaches after a game and say you know not getting the play time we expected and it's going to be real easy for the coaches to you know send different signals and so if you want to know a program killer it's going to be that if the coaches are not loyal to one another then you're going to have some problems. I think that the second thing you want to be loyal to is your vision. You know the vision that you've cast as a coach stay loyal to that even if things start to look a little break for your program you stay loyal and committed to that vision. The other thing you want to be loyal to is your program. You know and so whether you're wearing a hat or a shirt with your team name. You're now an ambassador you're wearing that program and so you're just lying to that and just hold yourself at a really high standard. In the last thing I'd say to be loyal to but probably the most important would be your players. Be loyal to your players when your players know that you have their best interests at heart. They will crawl over broken glass to perform for you to perform for the coach. When you want a great team chemistry the players want to perform for their coaches. You know I love that phrase that says the code of a warrior says "No Surrender" though his body says stop, his spirit says never and wouldn't you like as a coach to have a team of warriors. You know people that will perform far beyond because emotionally and spiritually they're just laying it all out on the field and so that loyalty can creat that kind of chemistry to create a winning team. The fourth is to become a great encourager. Become a great encouraging you've heard the phrase people don't care how much until they know how much you care and so when your players sense that you care about them. You know as a coach you scan the field, the court, the pool whereever you are as a coach and you're constantly looking for things that are happening right that you can encourage someone you could give them a high five. So that's it that'a a huge thing as a great coaches are great encouragers. You know Mother Teresa once said that there's a greater hunger for love and encouragement than there is for bread in this world and people are just starving for that affirmation. They're starving for recognition and your players will perform much better and maybe much better than they're capable if they believe maybe that they're better than they think they are but you believe in them and you're going to bring out their best.
