North Africa is distinguished from sub-saharan Africa because of it's interactions with the middle east. AKA Southwest Asia. North Africa is largely influenced by middle eastern culture especially Arab culture. North African population especially in countries like Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria etc is mixed with southwest Asian ethnicity. The main religion practiced there is Islam, although there are minorities of different religions. The main language spoken there is Arabic as influenced by the neighboring middle eastern countries. Although some countries like morocco and Algeria also speak french. Climate and vegetation are similar to that of the Mediterranean. North Africa is located slightly above the African transition zone meaning that the climate has more moisture compared to sub saharan Africa. Because of its position on the African transition zone, north Africa has it's moist environment.
