Consider the events of the poem "Life Is Fine."(by Langston Hughes). Based on what happens, what is the overall mood of the poem? How does the poet use rhythm to convey that mood?
Answer:
For a poem about breakups, the mood is surprisingly funny. He accomplishes this with the help of a lot of word repetition and alternating rhyme.
So how is the mood funny? For a man ready to die for love, he jumps out of the water he's supposed to drown in because it's "too cold." He tries to jump off an elevator but becomes scared of heights and gives up on that idea. All of this makes the mood hilarious. Hughes uses a lot of repetition in his sentences--"I came/I stood/I" and alternating end rhyme to make the speaker's "sad story" sound pathetic and ridiculous.
