Broadly speaking, for the final project for MTH 1210 you will gather data to compare ONE quantitative variable (i.e. a numerical) measurement between TWO different groups. You will make a guess as to if one population's variable is larger than the other, or if they are simply different. You will use statistical analysis to determine if your original hypothesis was correct. NOTE: Your hypothesis does NOT need to be correct to earn the points; I grade based on interpreting your results correctly.

In this Project Proposal, you will answer four prompts whose answers will help outline your project according to the above points. Your project should cover the topic as you present here.

1)Please type general statement of your project including the variable (measurement), populations, and hypothesis. Your hypothesis will be either that you think one population will be higher than the other, or that the populations will be different.

Examples:

"I will compare the amount of sugar in chocolate candy versus fruit candy. I think that fruit candy will have more sugar."

"I will compare the resting heartbeats of men versus women. I think that the heartbeats will be different."

"I will compare the DU Pioneer hockey scores home versus away. I think the home scores will be higher."

2) What are your two populations?

Examples:

Chocolate candy (per serving) and fruit candy (per serving)

Men and women

Home games and Away games

3) What is the quantitative variable (or measurement) to be studied? This MUST be numerical!

Examples:

Sugar per serving

Resting heartrate

Hockey game scores

4) How will you collect your data?

Examples:

Going to the store and recording nutrition information for candy, 30 kinds of chocolate candy and 30 kinds of fruit candy

Taking the heartrates of 30 men and 30 women

Using the DU Pioneer website to obtain scores for 30 home games and 30 away games
