A politician is often a high-risk individual due to the nature of their profession. Additionally, they may have views that may be coarse to the community and, as such, present an issue that may lead to individuals retaliating against them. To this end, there is a need to have a well-prepared route for the politician to follow during their visit and stay. To this end, the politician will be welcome to the compound where they will descend at the entrance to the door. This is to minimize their exposure from walking from the distant car park to the main door entrance. The vehicle will then proceed to park in the main parking area away from the entrance. They will walk to the sitting room where well-marked guards will offer visual and physical protection. The main entrance will also remain highly guarded by security guards, with only the designated guests being allowed to the house. The selected guests will be searched as standard security protocol and will involve a body temperature check as a precaution to the COVID-19 pandemic. On leaving, the politician's vehicle will drive to the main door entrance. At this point, they will board, and the car will drive off to the second gate exit to minimize the predictability of entry and exit strategy to potential attackers. The critical areas of vulnerability for the politician are the main gate areas and the main entrance door. This is the point where the politician will be exposed as they enter and leave the premises. There is a possibility of the attackers having weapons such as handguns, bombs, and knives. A key intention may be kidnapping to have a ransom hostage situation.

This is a variation of the Containment Theory as proposed by Walter Reckless. Under the Containment Theory, it is posited that several or series of external factors and internal qualities of an individual effectively insulate them from exposure to criminal activities or involvement. This theory contents that environmental or ecological variables may induce others to engage in crime or subject another person to criminal activity.

Hence, following this theory, detailed security personnel have been developed to surround and guard politicians. The nature of a politician or a public officials office entails massive "environmental or ecological" variables which may induce others to participate in criminal activity. This is reflected on the fact that politicians can easily be targets to assassination or killings due to their rhetoric's and stands on different national issues that affect lives of individuals. Knowing this for a fact, a politicians course of action and movement is heavily studied by police details, security agents, and undercover officers to ensure that all external threats are either suppressed or mitigated. The Theory of Containment thus seeks to insulate a target for criminal activity from both environments and other people who have high propensity to commit criminal behaviors. This is found in the fact that politicians follow the safest routs and the most covered areas in all their actions and transportations. Insulation under the theory of containment entails being aware of the internal factors which predetermine criminal propensity (in this case, the character of a public official) and the external variables which when exposed to the internal stigma can cause criminal activity (in this case, individuals who might want to retaliate against the public official). Hence, in order to avoid or mitigate criminal scenarios the public official should be placed in insulated or "contained" environments which limits or totally eliminates interaction with threatening external variables.

So what now are the roles of undercover officers in these operations?

The system of containment and insulation is already a known strategy even by the public. Hence, those who plan to conduct attacks against public officials tend to create machinations to conceal their intents and their motives to assassinate or attack a person. Usually, these intents are well covered in the presence of uniformed police officers as these assassins or killers are trained to manipulate how they appear in crowds where police officers or security agents are readily visible. The role of undercover officers is to be able to observe these perpetrators in environments when they do not see any threat of police or uniformed agents around. This allows law enforcement to detect any possible or suspicious threats prior to a public official entering a certain zone or area.
