Everyone has the right to practice their civil liberties but one’s freedom shouldn’t affect the freedom of others. This would mean freedom of speech should be allowed as long as it doesn’t promote hatred or discriminate people but when it does, courts have the duty to prevent them and punish them in order to promote stability and solidarity in the society. This would mean that the Canadian Supreme Court’s decision of restricting Keegstra's right to free speech is justifiable because she was using hate speech in the classroom among the students regarding the Jewish community which was unconstitutional. This is because of the fact that hate speech would promote retaliation and violence which would ultimately disturb the peaceful life of many people in the country.
