The pKa of 2,4-dinitrophenol is 3.96. Could you separate it from benzoic acid using extraction procedures? If so, please detail and explain how this can be done.
You should be able to, but it will not be that simple. The problem is that the electron withdrawing effect of the two nitro groups on the phenol greatly acidifies it.
pKa of benzoic acid is 4.2.
