The country's workforce is majorly made of the aged population. With with high portion of those unemployed being youths.
This places pressure on the country to create jobs for the youthful with unemployment rate standing at 25%.The education system has led to mismatch between the industrial needs and skills available with the population. There is therefore need to focus on technical and scientific skills in the education system so as to produce a complete mix of skills among the youths to fill the market demands.Also,the wage rates between the public and private sector in the country has a mojor disparity while on average a government employee earns approximately 21% more than a private sector employee with the same experience in similar position.
A country whose private sector may not revitalize the economy fully hence need to empower the private sector through conducive policy framework and operational environment.To address some of the perennial issues,the employment equity act seeks to strike a balance between the blacks and their white counterparts and affirmative action to have all groups of people accommodated in the workforce based on merit.
