  1. "What walks on two legs at day break, four legs during the day and three legs at end of the day?"
  2. "Who are the two sisters who gives birth to each other?"

Sphinx is a female monster character in the play "Oedipus the King". She asks riddles to passers by and if one is unable to respond to the riddles she kills them. When Oedipus passed by her, Sphinx paused the riddle to him and lucky he gave the correct answer which therefore made Sphinx kill herself. The answer to the first riddle that Oedipus gave is 'man', that man as a baby uses the four limbs to craw ,when it is grown stands and walk on two legs and at old age uses a walking stick to give support to the two legs hence making the number of legs three. Onto the second riddle Oedipus answer was 'day and night'. day leads to night and night leads to day.
