HOW WAR IN SYRIA AFFECTS USA

The conflict in Syria, which has marked its fifth anniversary in March 2016, has quickly become a global political battleground for the United States superpower. The involvement of the world leader in the conflict has also brought high level of coverage of the conflict. The Syrian civil war was started as development of Arab spring rebellion. Today, there may be as many as 4000 U.S boots on the ground in Syria. Airstrikes continue and though they have slowed since last year’s peak, the Trump administration has now twice bombed regime targets. In Syria, the United States find no reward, only risks and it’s high time for them to make exit. There are several positive and negative effects of politics affecting USA.

            The security for US allies will have been highly compromised. It is true that the US has a huge military base and Gulf States, Jordan and Israel who are US allies in the region have and continued to depend to USA for protection of their national security. Without the American military presence, the US will not be in a position to influence the development of events after the defeat of ISIS. US will be left to Russia, Iran and Turkey to determine the future of Syria, when in fact American allies in the region will be negatively affected in one form or another by the nature of the outcome. That deters the US from withdrawing from the war.

            American action could end a terrible human rights disaster within Syria and stop the Exodus of refugees that is creating a burden on neighboring states. Obama pledged to strengthen the government’s ability to foresee, prevent and respond to genocide and mass atrocities. By doing so, Obama could act without sliding down the slippery of war. Americans must identify those methods on the ground that is most effective and easily supplied to help end the Syrian war. To prevent Mr. Assad from staging a devastating response, the American backed alliance would have to create a no-fly zone which will first require taking apart Syrian air defenses. Mr. Assad has been using jets and helicopters to fight the rebels and a no-fly zone would quickly ground his entire force.

            The stress of the seven year war has created an ongoing impact that will last for years to come, with trauma and anxiety increasing blood pressure and consequent risk of heart disease. The amount of damage to hospitals has really been unprecedented. One of the most brutal hallmarks of the Syrian conflict has been the systematic targeting of hospitals and medical facilities by the Assad regime. In the first six month of 2018, The Syrian government and Russian allied forces attacked hospitals in clear violation of law. According to the medical researcher, before the war the situation in Syria was very different with the country having made significant progress in the health sector.

                        In conclusion, as much as the Syrian war has both negative and positive effects on USA, the Americans military presence will highly help in ending the war. Protection should be given to the US allies who includes Gulf States, Jordan and Israel in order for the US to be able to influence the development of events after the defeat of the ASIS. Americans must also identify methods that are most efficient to help the end of the Syrian war so as to stop Mr. Assad from staging a devastating response. Defending the medical facilities will also be a major relief since most people hope to get better in the hospitals rather than at home. This will reduce stress and anxiety.
