What is physical chemistry?

Physical chemistry is the study of how the theories of physics applies to chemistry. Specifically, physical chemistry is the study of the properties of matter on an atomic level and how chemical reactions happen. Some of the topics of physical chemistry are: thermodynamics, reaction rates, chemical equilibrium, phase changes, and intermolecular forces.
