A statistic is defined as an attribute or binary data of a sample. It is used to measure the value of a population parameter. It involves the accumulation and analysis of specific data by tabulating it. In the field of mathematics, statistics is a procedure or a tool for obtaining the required information from the collected data.

It is necessary in order to do the critical analysis of data by the use of charts or diagrams. The following are the two types of statistics:

• Descriptive
• Inferential

A simple example of statistics is described below.

Assume an arbitrary sample of 10000 people in a city having a total population of 2 million. The average income earned by the sampled people (10000) is considered as an example of a statistic.
