Answer:

It is always easier to put the blame on external problems rather than consider your own organization for what could possibly be affecting negatively the store’s performance. Indeed, some external problems were affecting the store. However, it was clear that the major issues were internal.

I think Oliveira had a good start. He realized that the customer relations weren’t going as well as it could be. In addition, he recognized that the working environment was poor, which I believe plays a major role on the individual performance of every employee. In fact, if employees feel miserable at their jobs they will not perform well. Oliveira did a great job in

recognizing the issues, but I think he lacked in creativity on how solving them. His ideas were great. However, since one of the clear internal issues was the unhappiness of the employees, I believe his first step should be any type of group activity were the interaction with other employees would be the focus. Even though the employees spend several hours a week together, it is possible for them to spend hours together and still barely know each other. In that group activity it should be encouraged the openness and vulnerability to create strong ties among the team members. I believe that starting from there, Oliveira could realize who is willing to make changes and become a good fit for the team in order to achieve a common goal.

Another point Oliveira should touch is his goal for the store. He did a great job in getting to know every employee. However, during the process too much time was wasted. Since the store was performing poorly, Oliveira should be open about it and state his ideas on changing things around since the beginning. Daniel’s visions should be shared with openness and clarity, so that the fear and anger of the employees towards change would shrink. Lastly, making the store more friendly and attractive to the customers was a necessary change. It does not reflect a good image on the store when the clients walk around the aisles and face most mannequins without any merchandising.
