Discovering Tides Follow the instructions below and use these sheets to record your answers to the Ocean Discovery Tides exercise. You will be using real datasets and information gathered online to complete these activities. You need to complete ALL sections of the exercise recording your answers on this worksheet as you go. These answer sheets should be added to your Ocean Discovery Journal for review and later assessment. Types of Tides Distinguishing Between Diurnal, Semidiurnal, and Mixed Tides Procedure On your browser go to: NOAA Tides & Currents: https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov Use the real time data available from tide monitoring stations listed on the NOAA website. When you enter the site you will see a map of the United States. Select one state from the East (Atlantic Coast), Gulf Coast, and West (Pacific) Coast of the United States. Note: Pacific coast refers to the West Coast on the selection tool. The Pacific in the selection tool refers to Hawaii and other island coastlines of the Pacific Ocean. When you select a state a map will come up showing you data locations that are coded for either water levels (tide stations), meteorology (weather stations), or currents (current velocity stations). You can select any of the stations that have water levels including those with meteorology data. Select your station by clicking on the pin for that station. When you click on a station a dialogue box will open Record the station name below for each station you are using. You want to use the actual name not the serial number of the station.
