Explain how epistemological and ontological assumptions lend themselves to one or more research approaches? I do not understand it all. Please explain how to approach research.

 

Ontology and epistemology is a dynamic phenomenon designed to explain the essence of research. In my situation, I need to  understand both of them regarding my research. So you need to understand the basic meaning of these two words. Ontology 

studies the structure of the nature of reality or the nature of life, and epistemology studies the potentiality of human understanding. 

Ontology is about a being that exists as self contained or independent of a human being. Yet epistemology is a matter of human 

cognition.

Step-by-step explanation

As Dr. Patton (Laureate Education (Producer), 2016a) explained, epistemology is a study of knowledge and a study of how we know what we know, while ontology is a study of being, existence and the nature of reality. In other words, the epistemological assumption investigates what distinguishes justified belief from opinion by being part of it (Babbie, 2017; Laureate Education (Producer, 2016a). Whereas the ontological assumption raises the question of what we are studying and trying to find out, and whether it even exists (Laureate Education (Producer), 2016a). Dr. Patton further elaborated on these assumptions using an example of a table. The epistemological assumption asks how do we know that there is a table or that there is a table, whereas the ontological assumption asks how we know if there is a table. That's why I think these two assumptions are closely connected.

As Tuli (2010) states, all of these assumptions lend themselves to any research approach since the context for any research involves beliefs about the essence of reality or ontological assumptions and the theory of knowledge that guides research or epistemological assumptions.
