Read the following case carefully and answer the questions given at the end Sunrise Academy, a privately run technical college, has been operating now for four successful years. Executive Director A is responsible for overseeing the college. He has just been reviewing the latest enrollment figures and is pleasantly surprised again by the projected number for the upcoming school year. This will mean that a new professor will be needed in the business administration program. A picks up the phone and calls the director of human resources to start the process for drafting a job posting to advertise the position both internally and externally.
A week goes by and HR calls A to indicate that they have many applications available to be reviewed for potential interviews. After a round of four "okay, but not spectacular" interviews, A was beginning to think they would never find a good candidate. However, the last interviewee, B turned out to be a successful choice and was subsequently offered the position. HR checked two references prior to offering B the position in writing. HR also asked B to bring an original copy of her Master's degree once it was received, as this degree was a requirement in the professor posting.
B brought a copy of her degree to HR within a week of being offered the job position. HR's policy is also to call the issuing institution to verify degrees. Things became busy in the department so it was nearly two months later when someone finally checked B's degree. The results indicated B's degree was forged. HR called A with the news, and A has asked you to come in for help.
Questions
What would you advice/ suggest to A in this case.
What should have been done differently in the selection process?
How should the background-checking process be improved at Sunrise Academy.
Executive Director A should first of all revoke the hiring of B as a possible lecturer in the institution. And A should also put the Director of HR on administrative leave immediately.
What the Executive Director was supposed to do is first, provide the HR with Academic Qualifications and Requirements that were needed by the prospected candidates applying for the job. The Advertisement for job could have run for a little bit longer and not just one week, this would allow enough time for more people to apply for the job.
Background-checking process should be improved by, the certificates provided by a potential employee should first be verified properly before being given the job.
