why are you moved (or not) by non-human species that live/exist for an extremely long time (ancient redwoods, certain turtle species, and so on). Perhaps go back to that cockroach we were pondering in terms of pain and time-experience: would you like cockroaches more if they were a bug species that lived for, say, several decades? Could you easily kill a bug that has lived longer than you have? Remember to be analytical and philosophical, not just impressionistic.
