(1) Persevering in the face of fear -Ranchman. This statement of courage is what I believe courage is not giving up when you are afraid. Or even doing something when you are afraid to do it. For the laypeople’s response willing to take risk, not knowing if one may fail or succeed. I can’t do anything if I don’t think I will succeed and I know I am not courageous so if they are about to do it without knowing I believe they are brave. Some I don’t think are very accurate to me is sacrificing, working, or helping a cause. A lot of this I feel like comes natural for a lot of people. Like sacrificing lots of people do this in many ways a parent for their child, a sibling, a friend it’s something I believe comes when you care about someone. The ability to remember what is worth prizing and what is worth fearing -Plato. For me without context I just don’t see how this really relates to courage.

Oppose the pressures exerted on them and remain faithful to their ideals and themselves. - Kohut
I thoroughly enjoyed this academic definition of courage because it communicates that there will be times when you will meet someone (or others), and you will not see eye to eye, however, remaining true to your beliefs speaks volumes of yourself and your character.
Displaying actions that go along with one’s beliefs.
I choose this layperson definition of courage because even though it does not specify what type of beliefs it can be said that one will always display actions in what they truly believe in (all round) opposed to just voicing your beliefs.
The contempt of wounds and violent death. It inclines men to private revenges, and sometimes to endeavor the unsettling of public peace. - Hobbes
This was my least favorite academic definition of courage since it is taking me a bit to fully comprehend. As soon as I read it, I believed it had to do with revenge and only revenge, personally, I do not think that is what defines courage.
Form of assistance during a dangerous or life-threatening event.
Although this layperson's definition is truly incredible, I do not think those who do not assist or risk their lives as this would be a dangerous or life-threatening event are less courageous. With that said, these definitions are a good reminder that we all have various ideas of what courage is. It is very interesting!
