The American Colonies continued to grow after the French and Indian War. Growing up led many colonists to long for individual freedoms. Like a teenager ready to leave home, the Colonies began to resist the rules of living under the roof of King George III. The longer the colonies grew, a division of expectations grew on the part of the Colonists and British. How did the expectations of both sides lead to war? Provide examples of both sides. How were these differing cultures demonstrated in the way the war was fought by each side? Which proved more effective in this "David and Goliath" matchup? What strengths and weaknesses did each side have?
Below is the answer please
Step-by-step explanation
Different expectations from Both sides that led to this war. First the American had been left to control themselves after the French and Indian war.And they expected that this would continue forever but Britain government started again to impose new laws and taxes since according to Britain these colonies still were under it and had obligations to pay tax to Britain .The colonists were not happy with these laws and new taxes. This caused more division between the colonists and the British Reign. The colonists started protesting against the new British taxes and laws. This led to British reacting where it killed several of the colonists protesters .This was one of the major reasons for the war between Britain and its American colonies.
Another expectation is on the Boston blockade where British shut down the port of Boston for trade.British were doing this with the aim of curbing the colonists and bringing them back to senses and reality that they were still British colonists. This angered not only the colonists living in Boston but also colonists all over the colonists, since they all feared that British would the same to them, and according to the colonists the British was not supposed to mend with their business and trade. This eventually led to the war.
Another reason that led to this war,is the growing unity among America colonies.Actually British thought that by imposing those heavy laws they would effectively take control of the colonies, but they expectations were frustrated since these laws made the colonies more united against the British. This unity gradually gave the colonies the morale and confidence of getting into the war.
Another expectation is the firts Continental Congress of 1774 where twelve out of the thirteen colonies sent representatives sent to the First Continental Congress as a direct response to the intolerable acts that British did to them. They expected king George III to reply but there was no response. This assumption that was done to them really angered them and was a factor that led to the war.
The climax was when in 1775 British soldiers in Massachusetts were ordered to disarm the American rebels and arrest their leaders. The British government expectations were that the process and arrest of the leaders would be successful, but things were different. The rebels fought back and the war began.
.On the other side of colonies culture was manifested where they religious beliefs gave them justification of getting into the war since they argued that the revolution was justified in the eyes of the Lord. The colonies turned the resistance into a righteous activity hence used this basis to unite the troops of the colonies and also the rebels. Religion Ministers served in the battle and some even took leadership roles in the troops for instance revolution chaplains,.
The church got divided and various denominations split into their own ways. Churches that supported the colonies were on one side and they were mainly led by the black ministers who fully supported the colonies. On the other side the churches that supported and were loyal to the British King went on the other side. For instance The church of England in America was under the Britain King leadership, hence this church. The bishops, priests and clergy vowed to support king, and the book of Common Prayer offered prayers for the monarch , beseeching God to be defender of the king and his kingdom.
On culture still the British culture was more standing something that enabled them remain united via out the war and even running of the whole war including the troops control was not hard. Via the British already established culture their troops were well enlightened on war matters and how to go through it.The chain of command was easily followed by these British side during the war and the British soldiers were highly displined. On the colonies side their culture seemed to be not so favorable to the war.The colonies army was poorly displined and they always got summoned for not being displined and not carrying out their duties well. This is because these American colonies had different culture diversities and believes. They culture differences would be observe in war when they failed to agree on various issues, causing them to divide into groups.
According to me the British culture seemed to favor the war because via it Britain had all the necessary knowledge on the war. Also via Britain culture the Britain were more organized, displined and committed to the war. They seemed to have taken control of the war until when France backed up the colonies army.
British strengths during the war.
The British had a professional army of about 42,000 men.The army was highly trained and its generals were so smart. This made them to effectively control their army during the war.
Another strength is that the British were well equipped compared to colonies army. The British had enough ammunition, guns, good muskets, adequate food and also uniform. This gave them an upper hand always during this war period.Fighting the colonies with such good weapons that Britain had was simple.
Another strength of the Britain during the war is that they used strategies that would divide the colonies army and attack them at different points, because attacking them all at once would be highly dangerous.
British army weaknesses during the war.
First the British army was fighting in a far land away from home so they were not fully familiar with the fighting grounds. This gave colonies army an upper hand since it would use its knowledge on the landscape to attack Britain army.
Another weakness is that Britain army depended on reinforcement from their homeland, something that seemed to disadvantage them since before the back up would reach the Colonies army had enough time to rearrange themselves and attack the British.
Colonies army strength
One of the strength of the colonial army is that they were fighting in their own landscape so they had full knowledge on where and how to launch attacks to Britain when they least expected.
Another strength of Colonies army is that they were willing to fight fiercely and even ready to die so that they nation may attain independence. They had experienced so hard times under British so this war motivated them to offer their best so that they may get liberated.
Another strength of colonies army is that they were aided by the civilians in various ways for instance civilians spying for them on the plans of the British army.
Colonies army weaknesses
First they had very few good weapons compared to British army. This was a disadvantage to them anytime they went into an open war with the British.
Another weakness is that they were not organized, trained or even skilled like the British army. The colonies army at many times found itself in misunderstandings among each other.
