Using the Google Arts and Culture portal (link) find the "Museums" link. You will see an extensive list of museums and art galleries from all over the world. Begin to visit different galleries and museums to decide on the museum/gallery you want to focus on. Be aware that some sites are NOT galleries such as NASA, Time magazine etc. You may NOT choose these sites.
Not every galley/museum will have the feature that allows you to make a virtual visit. Look for the icon of a stick person that should appear on the site's homepage. You MUST choose a gallery/museum that has this feature. Part A must include the following: 1. Your First Impression: What do you see first when you "enter" the gallery? Carefully describe the space and the way the art first appears. Can you see art immediately? How is it displayed? Is the space inviting? Appealing in some way? What are some of its key formal features? Remember, this is your response, so be honest and evaluate how you think the gallery interior first appears and how it houses the art. This should not be simply descriptive, as it must include your thoughts and reflections. 2. Moving Through the Gallery: Using the icon you are able to move through the gallery, choose directions, and zoom in closely. The camera allows you to walk through the gallery space. Each gallery designs this feature and there is a range of what you can and cannot see. You will however be able to see more of the interior of the gallery. Describe and comment on what you are able to see in the gallery. Once again, this should not be only descriptive as it is essential you include your thoughts and evaluate this experience. 3. Context/display of Chosen Artwork: After selecting one artwork in the gallery, describe and evaluate how it is displayed. Is it in a large room or small room? What is the appearance of this room? Are there other artworks? How is the work lit? Is it framed? In your view, does the context in which you see this artwork enhance or inhibit your understanding of the work?
