A woman has a mutation that causes the zona pellucida to be tough and not disintegrate after the egg was fertilized. How would this affect her fertility? Explain.
Answer:
As the zona pellucida is tough and not degenerate after fertilization there wil be hindrance in formation of germ layers( ectoderm, endodern, and mesoderm) and the zygote might not result in formation of offspring.
As there is mutation in that particular genes of zona pellucida, fertility would be lost for that women as the sperms cannot harbour into the egg anymore.
