1)What is a product layout?

 

Product layout covers the process of producing products of high standards, with the capability of being equally competitive in the market. It mostly occurs in production processes dealing with repetitive assemblies. It is the case in organizations dealing with the continuous flow of products.

Essentially, there are two main types of product line layouts, that is paced and unpaced. Paced product layout entails the performance of products operations. An example is a work station dealing with automobile manufacturing. On the other end, an unpaced production layout deals with an assembly line, with a balanced distribution of tasks to different individuals.

There are distinctive features of product line layout. They include the presence of relatively smaller parts of inventories, the movement of organizational inventories is conveyed, partly or complete movement of products, heavy investments, and the presence of integrated points.

Product layout has the benefits of; application of automatic devices; delays are eliminated, maximization of resources, and speedy work-in-process.
