What is the effect of the boiler exit conditions on the efficiency of a power cycle?

a) A Rankine power cycle is operating between atmospheric pressure and 8 MPa. Steam leaving the boiler is at 600 •C. Turbine and the pump operate adiabatically and reversibly.

i. draw a flow chart of the cycle, label the streams carefully from 1 to 4.

ii. create a table that contains the following information on the state of the streams: temperature, pressure, enthalpy, entropy (and any other relevant data you think is important).

iii. determine the heat and work interactions of all of your process equipment

iv. determine the cycle efficiency.

b. due to a system failure , boiler capacity has decreased by 15%. In other words, 15% less heat is now available at the boiler. As an engineer, your task is to select boiler effluent temperature and pressure. The turbine effluent conditions has to remain the same as in part a. Under these conditions, determine the cycle efficiency.
