For me, the line "The iron in our veins is stained in rust." means one's own passiveness and negligence. I think this line suggests that there could be times and instances when we need come out of our safe zones and fight alongside with others but we refuse to do so. Our ancestors fought and died for our freedom, and that their blood of bravery is contained in our blood as well. Like them, we are expected to stand with others but due to conflicting views and selfish reasons, we refuse to offer a helping hand. I think this statement is true nowadays if we are condemning the acts of mobilizing street protest that amplify different societal issues. Taking into specific example is the #BlackLivesMatter movement. If we think that this a nonsense movement, then the iron in our blood in really stained in rust. This just means that we are failing to see the true cause behind what they do, and the spirit of humanity and unity is slowly dying.
