The primary function of the female reproductive system is to prepare the body for possible pregnancy, and to be able to carry out a pregnancy whenever it occurs. The functionality of this system is carried out through the release of different hormones, namely:

  • Gonadonatropin-releasing hormone (GnRH - hypothalamic hormone which stimulates the release of FSH and LH hormones in the anterior pituitary gland)
  • Follicle stimulating hormone (stimulate the development of ovarian follicles), and Lutenizing hormone (promotes steroid hormone release in the ovaries namely: estrogen and progesterone)
  • Estrogen and Progesterone (hormones released in the ovaries which are responsible for the development of the female reproductive organs and the development of female secondary sexual characteristics.
